Obituary for Betty E. Joseph (Elhajj)

Betty (Elhajj) Joseph, 96, of Middletown entered eternal rest on Wednesday, August 17, 2022, at Oak Hill Village, Middletown. She was widow of Joseph C. Joseph.
She was born August 26, 1925, in Pottsville and was the loving daughter of the late William and Lucy (Barket) Elhajj.
Betty was proud of her service as a nurse’s aide at Fort Indiantown Gap during WWII.
She was a member of Seven Sorrows of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, Middletown and a former member of Church of the Holy Spirit, Palmyra.
Betty and her husband were two of the first people to help get Holy Spirt Catholic Church up and running when it became an active parish.
She enjoyed doing puzzles and playing BINGO, but her greatest love was her family.
In addition to her parents and husband, Betty was preceded in death by her sisters, Alma Bertini, Bernadette “Birdie” Barket; brother, Thomas Elhajj.
Betty is survived by her children, Michael W. Joseph (Karen) of Palmyra, Karen S. Joseph (Michael Smith) of Hummelstown, Betty J. Roksandic (George) of Hummelstown; brother, William Elhajj (Faye) of Shippensburg; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, August 25, 2022, at 10:30 AM at Seven Sorrows BVM Church, 280 N. Race Street, Middletown, PA 17057 with Fr. Timothy Sahd as Celebrant. There will be a visitation from 9:30 AM until the time of service at the church. Due to technical difficulties the service will not be live streamed. It will be recorded and added to the page later Thursday afternoon.
Burial will be at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Betty’s name to Seven Sorrows, above address.
The family has entrusted the Matinchek Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc, 260 E. Main St. Middletown, PA with the funeral arrangements.
