Obituary for Caroline Nancy Elhajj

Our hearts hurt as we remember the fabulousness that was Caroline. Caroline N. Elhajj, 18, of Manchester, formerly of Middletown, stepped into her Heavenly Father’s embrace on Wednesday, December 30, 2020 at home with her family by her side.
Caroline taught us so many things in her short 18 years - how to speak without words, how to stand your ground with just a look, and how to be strong in the face of adversity. She was a true warrior and badass. She was loved by so many and left a lasting impression on all the hearts of those who knew her. She’s now in heaven running free and chatting the ears off our Heavenly Father.
Caroline was born in Harrisburg, PA on November 27, 2002 to Tony W. Elhajj and Andrea M. (Blanch) Elhajj.
Caroline was a member of Yorkshire Academy, York, PA. She previously attended Middletown Area Middle School. Caroline was a Taylor Swift fan. She loved animals (especially her cat PJ), bowling, playing board games, getting her nails done, and audio books. Caroline loved day trips, movies, head massages, and music. She loved giving sass through her eyes and was good at rolling her eyes. Caroline was good at flirting with her male doctors and therapists.
Caroline is survived by her parents, Tony Elhajj and his wife, Lisa, with whom she lived in Manchester; and Andrea B. (Blanch) Elhajj; paternal grandmother, Nancy Elhajj; maternal grandparents, Margaret Blanch, and John Blanch and wife Peggy; and grandmother Janice Houseman; her brothers, Jayson Elhajj (Becky Frye); Jeremiah Luttrell (wife Requina), Justin Luttrell (wife Jennifer); and her sisters, Riley Elhajj (AJ Salov), and Jennifer Cox (husband Robert); and numerous Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, Nieces and Nephews.
She’s was preceded in death by her grandfather, Thomas Elhajj, grandfather John Houseman, and cousin, Alex Smith.
All are welcome and will be accommodated for visitation with the family from 10 AM to 12 PM, Friday, January 8, 2021 in Matinchek Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc. at 260 East Main Street, Middletown, PA 17057. (Covid guidelines will be followed). A private memorial service will immediately follow the visitation. Burial will be in Middletown Cemetery following the service.
We want to say thank you to the Rett Community. We have bonded with local Rett girls and their families and attended many conferences across the country; and met such strong and fierce girls. All the Rett girls show strength, grit, and fierceness. One day with continued hard work and research a cure will be found to free our girls from Rett Syndrome imprisonment.
In addition the family would like to thank: Caroline’s wonderful team of physicians at Penn State Children’s Hospital and WellSpan Neurology; including her core team of Physicians: Dr. Baker, Dr. Rifkin, Dr. Barron, and Robin Kingston, CRNP. We would also like to thank the Penn State Hummingbird Program for their dedication and commitment to their patients and families. We would like to thank all Caroline’s fabulous teachers, therapists, music specialists that she has had over the years. We would like to thank Caroline’s unwavering friend, Emma Mitchell, for having Caroline’s back in school and being one of Caroline’s biggest advocates. We would like to thank our Bayada nurses for their devotion and commitment to their profession who put the CARE in caring. We couldn’t have done this as easily without you! We would like to thank Hospice and Community Care. We would like to thank our extended family and friends who have supported us over the years with cards, pep talks, counseling, and words of encouragement. To say it takes a village may be cliche’ but Caroline truly had a village.
