Obituary for Caroline E Sheehan

Caroline E. Sheehan, longtime resident of Middletown, PA, passed away peacefully on November 8, 2022, at the age of 91. She loved her husband John E. “Jack” Sheehan, who passed away in 2001; her daughter Diane Sheehan Cook and husband Jeff of Worcester, PA; and her son Kevin Patrick Sheehan of Elizabethtown, PA. She was a proud and loving Nana to Colin, Brendan, and Shannon Sheehan.

Caroline was born in Harrisburg, PA, in 1931, daughter of Charles and Mabel Zimmerman. She was the youngest, and last survivor, of the Zimmerman siblings: Clarence, Harvey, Catherine, Merlo, Harry, Mary, and Jane.

Caroline graduated from Highspire High School in 1949. She married Jack Sheehan in 1957, raised her family in Middletown, and worked for the GSA as a fleet manager. After retiring, she volunteered at the Interfaith Food Bank in Middletown.

Surviving Caroline, in addition to her immediate family, are brothers- and sisters-in-law Erna Schneck, Anna Sheehan, Michael Sheehan, Charlotte (Jim) Buckreis, Jan Robeson, Colleen (Chuck) Kline, Phyllis (Tom) Harkless, Claudette (Frank) Yodie, Barbara (Phil) Talarico, Michele (Fred) Engle, Tim (Colleen) Sheehan, Jerome Sheehan, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins, some of whom she connected with through ancestry research in recent years.

Caroline was a proud and proper lady who was always dressed to the nines, with her hair perfectly done, and wouldn’t think of being seen without her earrings. She loved listening to music, especially the big band music of her youth, and though she saw many of the great ones, she said the best concert she ever saw was the Eagles. She was ready and willing to go out to lunch or dinner anytime, but a grilled hot dog and a Pepsi suited her just fine. She rooted for Penn State and any other sports team from Pennsylvania. She liked to feed the birds, and weed and tidy-up her gardens. She loved her Charlie and all the other dogs who were part of her life over the years.

Caroline was very close with her dear neighbors Ron & Sharon and Nancy, and her family would like to thank them for many years of friendship, caring, and assistance.

Thank you also to the wonderful nurses at Penn State Hershey Medical Center, who treated Caroline with compassionate, dignified care.
