Obituary for Catherine J. Intrieri (Holstein)

Catherine Josephine Intrieri passed away peacefully on March 8, 2023. Those that loved her called her “Cathy”, “Mom” and “Grammy”. She will be remembered most for her warmth, kindness, and smile. She was a remarkable woman who was unforgettable once your path crossed hers. She was 92 years old.
Catherine was born on January 3, 1931 in Palmyra, PA to Lester and Mable Holstein. Her mother died shortly after giving birth to Catherine, therefore as was the custom of the time, Catherine grew up in the Hershey Orphanage. At the age of 15, her father remarried and brought her home. She graduated high school at the age of 16 and began working and living independently at the Army Depot. Shortly after, she met the love of her life, Raymond “Pete” Intrieri. They were blissfully married until Pete’s death in October of 2004. We are assured that they are jitterbugging in Heaven together as we speak.
Catherine prided herself in her role as a homemaker and caregiver to Pete., their daughter, Linda, and their granddaughters, Angie, Kristen and Kim. Her caregiving and heart extended to her church community at Seven Sorrows, and everyone else she adopted along the way including, neighbors, friends, friends of Linda and friends of her granddaughters. She enjoyed spending time with family, playing bingo, loving her cat Daisy, watching PSU football, reading, shopping and had mastered the art of accessorizing and coordination of color when dressing.
She is survived by her daughter, Linda Zawacki and son-in-law Kenneth Zawacki; Granddaughters, Angela Rohacek, Kristen Zawacki, and Kimberly Zawacki; Great Grandson, Oliver Reams; and Niece Carol O’Leary.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, March 15, 2023 at 1:00 PM at Seven Sorrows of the Blessed Virgin March Catholic Church, 280 N. Race St. Middletown PA, 17057 with the Rev. Father Timothy Sahd as celebrant.
Viewing will be from 11:30 AM until 12:30 PM at the Matinchek Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., Middletown.
Burial will be in the Middletown Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to Hospice of Central Pennsylvania.
