Obituary

A devoted husband, father and son, Christopher Ray, 60, of Harrisburg, passed away on February 18, 2021 after a valiant battle with cancer. He was surrounded by family at the time of his passing.

The world became a brighter, warmer and more beautiful place on November 15, 1960 - the day Chris was born. Chris lived a full life and he filled the lives of those who knew him with kindness, happiness and joy. The depth of his loss is incomprehensible.

Chris was a graduate of Shippensburg University, an avid basketball player and sports fan, and enjoyed traveling the world with his wife. He previously served as an exalted ruler of the Elks Lodge 13 in Harrisburg, and has worked for the past five years as National Sales Manager for Levi’s Building Components in Leola, Pennsylvania. Chris was extremely intelligent and knew something about every topic that ever came up.

Chris was predeceased by his father, Richard Ray; his brother, Matthew “Marty” Ray; and a granddaughter, Arianna Ray. He is survived by his adoring wife of 19 years, Betsy Goodman; his mother, Connie Slonaker Ray; his three daughters, Lyndsay Ray, Alyssa Ray (Jeff) and Kacey Muniz (Adam); his six grandchildren, Ava, Easton, Quinn, Hannah, Noah and Eliza; his four nieces and nephews, Seth, Collin, Aubrey and Jayci.

Due to Covid -19 there will be a private, family service and no public service at this time, details entrusted to Matinchek Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Middletown. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the American Cancer Society 1-800-227-2345. Memories and condolences may be shared at www.matinchekfuneralhome.com.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the entire Ray family. Chris was a major factor in our Elizabethtown HS basketball team being a Section Champion and getting to the Lancaster-Lebanon Title game at Hersheypark Arena many, many years ago. We played a lot of hoops together at Shippensburg University too. He could stroke the ball deep in the corners before there was a 3 point line. I even leased a brand new maroon Chevrolet Celebrity sedan from him when he worked at Sutliff Chevrolet in Harrisburg.
Great guy and a friend that got away over the years. RIP Chris. Art Fairbanks

Dear Betsy and family,
So sorry to hear of your loss. May God wrap his loving arms around all of you and give all of you peace. I remember our Panama canal cruise together. Chris was a fabulous guy and will be missed sorely. My prayers and love to all of you.

Dear Betsy, Connie, Lyndsay, Alyssa & Kacey—We are so deeply saddened at the loss of Chris. It will be difficult to move forward without him but as time goes on you will more and more appreciate the memories. My sister Gwen and I grew up with Chris. We saw him every Saturday night at Grandma Ray's house and we have so many great memories. Frozen in my mind is the time Chris threw a truck at me in the sandpile LOL! We'd always see him at family gatherings. He was always there. Later on he and his brother Marty appeared at my Mother Floss' 80th birthday party and posed with her to show off the famous "Ray Legs." Chris was always good-natured and caring and a good listener. We always said Chris had such a great personality. He could sell anything. My best to all of you. Love from Phoebe (Ray), Chris, Zach and Loren (Price)
