Obituary for Edward Lawrence "Ed" Poet

Edward “Ed” L. Poet, 66, of Middletown, passed away on Sunday November 29, 2020 in the comfort of his home. Born June 3, 1954 in Harrisburg, he was the son of the late Wilbur Berkey and Helen M. Poet (Weaver). In 1971, Ed left John Harris High School to eagerly join the United States Army, during the Vietnam War, where he became a proud paratrooper for the 82nd Airborne Division. After many jumps out of airplanes, Ed ironically developed a fear of heights. Soon after his honorable discharge he completed his GED. Ed then started a career with the Navy Depot in Mechanicsburg and retired in 2011 with a career lasting over 38 years. He was an active member of several local clubs such as the American Legion Post 998 in Lawnton, Elizabethtown Moose Lodge 596, and Middletown Anglers and Hunters. Ed enjoyed watching cooking shows and trying new recipes. He was a fan of the Minnesota Vikings. He had a passion for music, especially Stevie Nicks. Ed is survived by his significant other, Sherry M. Caswell, of Middletown. He is also survived by his two daughters, Stevie L. Dunn, wife of Drew E. and Shelby M. Malatestinic, wife of Matthew A. He adored his two grandchildren Jaren E. Dunn and Olivia M. Malatestinic. Additionally, he is survived by Sherry’s daughter, Shannon Caswell.
Ed was blessed with many loyal, life-long friends who stood by his side for over 40 years. They enjoyed riding their Harleys, visiting wineries, and attending the local fish frys during lent.
