Obituary for Faylene E. Zdinak

Faylene E. Zdinak, 83, of Hummelstown, and formerly of Williamsport, passed away peacefully with her loving family surrounding her on February 9, 2023, at the Hershey Medical Center.
She was born on June 2, 1939, in Hillsgrove, PA and was the daughter of the late Ray L. and N. Marie (Brong) Kanally.
Faylene graduated from the Williamsport Hospital School of Nursing in 1960 where she began her career in the operating room. That love of nursing led her to careers teaching surgical technicians and later anatomy and physiology to medical transcriptionists. She ended her dedicated career retiring in 2002 as the Nurse Manager at the Family Medicine Center in Middletown. She was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church in Hummelstown where she was a long-time member of the church choir. As a prior member of the American Contract Bridge League, she was an avid Bridge player and belonged to a several bridge clubs over the years. Since November 1973, she had been an active member of Beta Sigma Phi International Sorority and currently served as President of the Alpha Sigma Master Chapter, # MA 1195. Faylene loved to entertain, and her family has many fond memories of their time spent by the pool having summer cookouts or enjoying holidays together. She and her late husband, Paul, spent many of their vacations touring Europe or traveling the high seas on many Royal Caribbean Cruises. Faylene was also an avid sports fan…she loved all things pertaining to Penn State Football, the Pittsburgh Steelers, and last, but not least, her beloved Philadelphia Phillies. We’d laugh because it wasn’t uncommon for her to make better calls than the umpire or referees! First and foremost, though, she was a devoted Mom, Grammy and Great-Grammy to her family, and, above all, they were her Life’s Greatest Blessing. To her, family was everything.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Zdinak in 2005.
She is survived by her loving children, Brian L. Cain and his wife Theresa of Hummelstown and Cheryl Gregory of Hummelstown and stepson, Jeffrey P Zdinak of Morgan Hill, CA; four grandchildren, Alisha Mutch (Jimmy), Eric Cain (Mindy), Brandon Black (Karly) and Sarah Gonzales (Tadd); seven great-grandchildren, Layla Mutch, twins Connor and Caleb Mutch, Breccan Black, Rory Black, Renner Black, and Sutton Gonzales.
A memorial Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, February 18, 2023, at 12:00 Noon at Grace United Methodist Church, Hummelstown, with Pastor Steve Salisbury officiating. A visitation will be from 11:00 AM until the time of services at the church. Afterwards, all are welcome to join the family for a luncheon in the church’s Fellowship Hall.
Private inurnment will take place at a later date at Fort Indiantown Gap.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions or donations in Faylene’s name may be made to Grace United Methodist Church, Hummelstown Food Bank or to Love INC.
