Harold McBride, Jr., 73, of Steelton, formerly of Loysville, PA, entered into eternal rest on Monday, March 6, 2023 in the Harrisburg Hospital.
Harold, known as “Egg” to his family, was born December 3, 1949 in Harrisburg, PA to the late Harold, Sr. and Rhoda (Forbes) McBride.
Harold was a SPC 4, US Army veteran who served two tours in Vietnam. After his discharge, he went to work at the Defense Logistics Agency (DOD) in New Cumberland as a heavy equipment mechanic. Harold retired from New Cumberland Army Depot in January 2005 with 30 years of service. He was a member and past president of the Marks Run Gun Club but had not hunted in the past few years due to his health. Harold enjoyed nature, the birds, the animals, everything but his greatest joy were his two dogs, Sadie and Blue. Harold was also an avid vinyl record (albums) and Army DVDs collector.
Harold is survived by his brother, Gene Westhafer and wife, Bonnie, of New Bloomfield, his sister, Hope A. Hoffman, of Steelton, with whom he lived, his nephews, Mark Hoffman and wife, Barbara, of Middletown and Marty McBride and his wife, Anyapat, of South Carolina and their two children, Jove and Paulina and great nephew, Rodney Craig.
Harold was preceded in death by parents, his brother, Paul “Ed” McBride and his niece, Jill Hoffman Craig.
Graveside Services, with Military Honors, will be held at 10:00 AM, Friday, March 17, 2023 in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, PA.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donation may be made to Highspire United Methodist Church, 170 2nd Street, Highspire, PA 17034.
The family has entrusted the Matinchek Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 260 E. Main St. Middletown, PA with the arrangements.
