Obituary for JoElla A. Knight (Shearer)

JoElla A. Knight, 94, of Middletown, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, July 28, 2020 at Frey Village Nursing Center, Middletown.
She was born on December 11, 1925 in Bainbridge, PA and was the daughter of the late Charles and Frances (Aliota) Shearer and raised by Lester and Mary Glass.
JoElla was a former waitress at Kuppy’s Diner in Middletown, a former member of the Red Land Senior Citizens, a former Den Mother and Girl Scout Leader, a former crossing guard for Middletown School District and a former Sunday School teacher at Riverside Chapel. She enjoyed hunting and driving tractors through the fields on their farm.
In addition to her parents, JoElla was preceded in death by her loving husband of 31 years, Edward L. Knight Jr., a son, Gerald M. Richardson, two infant sons, Lester and Samuel Richardson, two grandsons, Seth Jerome and Robert Rhodenizer, son-in-law, Paul (Fred) Rhodenizer Sr., a sister Mary Ginder and a brother, Eugene Shearer.
She is survived by her loving children, Frances A. Rhodenizer, Sharon F. Jerome and her husband Larry, Kenneth R. Richardson and his wife Gail, Patricia Givler and her husband Harvey; two step children, Susan Davis and Deborah Gross; a brother Frank Shearer; fifteen grandchildren, thirty-five great grandchildren and thirty-nine great-great grandchildren.
There will be a viewing from 1:00-2:00 PM on Tuesday August 4, 2020 at the Matinchek Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., Middletown. Private services will follow the viewing.
Memorial contributions may be made to Riverside Chapel Sunday School, 630 S. Union Street, Middletown, PA 17057.
