Obituary for Lawrence E. Robbins

Lawrence E Robbins “Larry” passed away peacefully on February 20, 2021, surrounded by his loving family. Larry was born on June 10, 1941, in St Paul, MN, son of the late Harris and Lucille (Hussong) Robbins. He graduated from Stratford CT High School and attended the U. of Connecticut and University Center in Harrisburg, PA.
Larry was a veteran of the US Air Force, and while stationed in Middletown PA, met and married his wife of 56 years, Sandy. He settled in Middletown, was employed by PPG Industries, and retired from the JF Brennan CO of Philadelphia.
He became very active in local affairs and was a past president of the Middletown Kiwanis Club, a school director with the Middletown Area School District, a board member and elder of the First Church of God, Middletown, a member of Prince Edwin Lodge F&AM, and a member of the Scottish Rite Consistory. He also served as president of the Middletown Interfaith Housing Board, and was active with the Thrift Shop of Middletown. Larry served as a vice president of the Middletown Swim Club, and was a member of the Olmsted Players Theatre Group. He was an active amateur radio operator (W3CEI) since the age of 12, and had contacted over 200 countries over the years.
One of Larry’s greatest loves was music. He was a member of his church choir for close to 55 years and also sang for special events at various locations.
In addition to his wife, Larry is also survived by the other loves of his life, his daughter Stacey, and grandchildren Autumn and Max. He would put everything else aside to participate in or attend one of their activities. He never missed an event in which they were involved. He was known as Poppi, and that was what everyone called him. He was a wonderful caregiver to his family and the heart of that family. They were blessed to have him for so many years.
Services will be held on Saturday, February 27 at Middletown First Church of God, 235 W High Street, Middletown, PA, beginning at 11:00 a.m. Inurnment will be in Middletown Cemetery, Middletown, PA. Matinchek Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc. is handling the arrangement
