Obituary for Leda Ruth Burkett (Kern)
Leda Ruth Burkett, 95, of Middletown entered eternal rest on Sunday, November 27, 2022, at Community General Osteopathic Hospital, Harrisburg. She was the widow of John I. Burkett, Jr.
She was born September 1, 1927, in Columbia, PA and was the loving daughter of the late Ford and Ruth (Stehman) Kern.
Leda volunteered much of her time at the thrift store, Senior Center, and with people of special needs. She enjoyed sewing, going to the seashore where she would go crabbing and fish. Her greatest love was spending time with her family.
In addition to her parents and husband, Leda was preceded in death by her sons, Vaughn Burkett, Raymond Burkett; daughter, Deborah Donnelly; five siblings.
Leda is survived by her sons, Dale O. Burkett (Debra) of Middletown, John I. Burkett, III (Renee) of Middletown; sisters, Lois Harbold, Shirley Freet, Nancy Blough; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
A tribute to Leda’s life will be held on Tuesday, December 6, 2022, at 11:00 AM at Riverside Chapel 630 S. Union St. Middletown, PA with Pastor Vaughn Burkett, Jr. officiating. There will be a viewing from 10:00 AM until the time of service at the church.
Burial will take place at Middletown Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Leda’s name to Riverside Chapel at the address above.
The family has entrusted the Matinchek Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc. 260 E. Main St. Middletown, PA with the funeral arrangements.
