Obituary for Louella "Joyce" Chainey

Louella "Joyce" Chainey, 79, entered into heaven on January 16, 2021 to be reunited with her husband, Richard Chainey Sr.; her parents, Perry and Elesha Childs; and her sister, Joanne McQuinn.

Joyce was born June 10, 1941 in Martinsburg, WV but spent the majority of her adolescence in Middletown, PA and was a 1959 graduate of Middletown High School. She became a devoted military spouse on August 15, 1959 and lived all around the world with her husband and children before settling in Biloxi, MS for 20 years. Upon her husband’s death in 1992, she returned to Middletown, PA where she was a school bus driver for 20 years.

Her time on Earth was spent joyously; she loved to travel and explored the country one campsite at a time with her loved ones. Christmas was her favorite time of year and she proudly displayed her decorations at every opportunity. Joyce was an avid clock collector and especially loved listening to each and every clock’s unique chime at the top of the hour. Above all other forms of happiness she had in life, Joyce was a wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

“A Mother’s love is something that no one can explain.
It is made of deep devotion and of sacrifice and pain.
It is endless and unselfish and enduring come what may,
For nothing can destroy it or take that love away.”

Joyce is survived by her daughter, Susan Trahan (Danny) of Stafford, VA; daughter, Toni Chainey of Middletown, PA; son, Richard Chainey Jr.(Lori) of Middletown, PA; Seven grandchildren, Brett Trahan, Danielle Gourlay, Joseph Moore, Kyle Trahan, Kristine Diegel, Richard Chainey III, Mattayha Chainey, and one great-grandson Brayden Gourlay. She is also survived by her sister, Judith Souders, of Middletown, PA; brother, Perry Childs of Somerset, PA, several nieces and one nephew.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to the excellent care Joyce received during her final years at Marian Manor assisted living facility in Stafford, VA.

Graveside services will be held on June 10, 2021 at 11 AM at Middletown Cemetery, 675 N. Spring Street, Middletown, PA 17057. Services will be subject to Covid regulations at the time of the service.
