Obituary for Marjorie A. "Marge" Troutman

Marjorie A. “Marge” Troutman, age 78, of Highspire, passed away suddenly at home of natural causes on January 22, 2021.
Born in Newport, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Wilbert and Elsie Troutman. A graduate of Newport High School, she moved to Harrisburg where she first worked at the State Hospital, then at various diners in the city. She retired after 30 years, first from the Capitol Cafeteria, then from the State Department of General Services where she worked as a custodian, then later as a Clerk 1 Receptionist for the Bureau of Real Estate.
While at the Capitol she was on a first-name basis with governors and legislators. She knew everyone and everyone knew her. Her parting words when she retired were, “Please know that I won’t forget all who have been nice to me and helped me learn. Thank you and be kind to each other and to yourselves.” Marge was well-known in Highspire as well as Newport where she grew up. Her friends have described her as giving, loving, sweet and always willing to lend a hand or a listening ear to friends, family, and all who loved her. She attended her siblings’ and later her nieces’ and nephews’ sporting events, concerts, plays, and musicals. She was a beloved sister and aunt and was the life of the party at many family gatherings which she loved to attend. She enjoyed poetry, watching Lawrence Welk reruns, traveling to the beach, and Disney World.
Marge was recognized by the Central Pa Blood Bank for her many years of donating blood. She also volunteered with the Muscular Dystrophy Society fundraising. A breast cancer survivor, she participated in American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Cancer” Wear Pink” events at Penn State and Relay for Life in Harrisburg. Marge believed that “You never know how strong you are until being strong is the only choice you have.”
Marge is survived by sisters Peggy Carl (Charlie), Gerry Good, Lois Allwein (Mike), and brothers Ken Troutman and Jim Troutman (Lori). She is survived by her brother-in-law Glenn Laverty Jr (Linda). She is also survived by nieces and nephews, Glenn Laverty lll (Megan), Nelson (Lori), Lisa Grickis, Charles Carl, Denise Maneval, Dave Troutman (Tracy), Tina Sellers Wareham (Andrew), Jen Sellers Dodge (Dave), Andrew Alosi (Kara), Matt Alosi, Jessica Kelly (Ryan), Kevin
Troutman and her beloved great nieces and nephews, Glenn Laverty IV (Krissy), Janis Raup (Scott), Gemma Laverty, Isaac Laverty, Spencer Otto, Adam Grickis, Ryan Carl, Austin Alosi, Jaxon Alosi, Mackenzie Alosi, Adeline Kelly and Nora Kelly, and great great niece and nephew, Tessa and Ian Laverty.
Marge was preceded in death by her parents Wilbert and Elsie Troutman, her sister, Susan Laverty, and brother-in-law, Donald Good.
Services and burial for Marge will be private because of Covid safety concerns, with the Rev. Michael Allwein officiating. The service will be livestreamed on her webpage at 11:00 AM on Thursday, January 28, 2021 at www.matinchekfuneralhome.com.
A public celebration where family and friends can come together to share memories and celebrate her life will be held in the future. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, PO Box 897, Hershey PA 17033.
“Be kind to each other and to yourselves.”
