Obituary for Marlin R. Goodling
Marlin R. Goodling “Mart” 82, of Middletown, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, December 20, 2022 at the UPMC Community Osteopathic Hospital, Harrisburg.
Mart was born on July 30, 1940 in Royalton and was the son of the late Alton R. and Helen M. (Kohr) Goodling.
He attended and was very active at the Highspire First Church of God. He also was a Veteran of the United States Marine Corps. He retired from Sutliff Chevrolet and previously worked in banking and home building.
Mart was an avid hunter and fisherman. He especially enjoyed hunting in Potter County and fishing on the Susquehanna as well as spending time in their cabin on Poplar island. His biggest prize in his hunting life was the 7x6 bull elk that he harvested in Benezette, PA. He also enjoyed sporting clays at the Hummelstown Field and Stream. He became a WWII buff due to the loss of his father in the war.
In addition to his parents, Mart was preceded in death by his brother, Donald Goodling.
He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 56 years, Donna G. (Prescott) Goodling; a son, Ronald L. Goodling and his wife Loretta; four siblings, Rochelle Still, Sandra Snook and her husband Barry, Barry Goodling and Alton “Jun” Goodling and his wife Shannon; a sister-in-law, Judy Goodling (wife of the late Donald Goodling); two grandchildren, Nick and Matt Goodling; extended family, Karen Marencic, Kathy Scheaffer (Jim), Kaye Smith (Rob), Krisi Curtis (Tim); several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 21, 2023 at 12:00 PM at the Highspire First Church of God 115 2nd St. Highspire PA 17034.Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until the time of services, Saturday at the church.
Inurnment will be at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.
The family has asked that memorial contributions be made to his church, Highspire First Church of God, 115, 2nd St., Highspire, PA 17034 or to the charity of your choice.
