Obituary for Mary D. Downing (Dibeler)
Mary D. Downing, 98, of Middletown, entered into eternal rest on April 5, 2021 at Frey Village Nursing Home. She was born on February 24, 1923 in Rheems, Pennsylvania to the late Leroy and Clara V. (Myers) Dibeler. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 54 years, Cecil L. Downing.
She is survived by a sister, Martha J. Coleman; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband she is predeceased by 2 brothers, Charles and Harry Dibeler; and a sister, Charlotte D. Harbold.
Mary was a 1941 graduate of Middletown High School, was a member of the Alumni Association, and worked as a secretary for the Super Intendant of the school. During wartime she was employed as a teletypist “Signal Corps” at the former Olmsted Air Force Base. She was a member of the Middletown Historical Society and a lifelong charter member of the National WWII Memorial Society.
Graveside services will be held on Thursday, April 8, 2021 at 1 PM at Middletown Cemetery, 675 N. Spring St., Middletown, PA 17057.
