Patricia A. Zimmerman (Pat) 80, of Mechanicsburg, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, July 7, 2020 at her daughter’s home surrounded by family. She was born on December 26, 1939 in Middletown and was the daughter of the late William F. and Rita A. (Weigard) Zimmerman.
Pat was a heartfelt Catholic and member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Mechanicsburg and former member of Seven Sorrows Catholic Church, Middletown. She served as a Eucharistic Minister for Holy Spirit Church, Virginia Beach.
Pat was a devoted military wife and mother raising her three children in Cherry Point, NC, Jacksonville, NC and Quantico, VA. Later, she helped raise two of her five grandchildren in Virginia Beach, VA. Pat was the director of the Child Care Center at MCB New River Air Station, Jacksonville, NC. She continued working with children at KinderCare Learning Centers in Virginia and Pennsylvania prior to retirement. She stayed involved with her children’s school activities, was a Girl Scout Leader, Den Mother and team mom for her husband’s youth baseball teams. She was also the children’s choir director at the base chapel. In the 1980’s, Pat and her husband were foster parents through Catholic Charities. Pat was a good neighbor and excellent cook and was known for her spaghetti sauce, peanut butter pie, and Christmas cookie gift tins.
In addition to her parents, Pat was preceded in death by her son, Robert (Bobby) Zimmerman and a sister, Joan Cleland. She is survived by her loving husband Robert P. Zimmerman and they would have celebrated 63 years of marriage in November; a son, Ted W. Zimmerman (Virginia Beach); a daughter, Rita Z. Harvey (Mechanicsburg); a brother, Donald Zimmerman (Middletown); five grandchildren, Brandon, Stephanie, Marie, Sarah and Shanna; two great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, and brothers and sisters in-law.
A tribute to her life will be held on Wednesday July 22, 2020 at 7:00 PM at the Matinchek Funeral Home, Middletown with Rev. Edward J. Keating (Father Ted) officiating. Visitation will be from 6:00 PM until the time of services at the funeral home. Pat was humble and modest all of her life so please dress casual and wear something red, her favorite color. Burial will immediately follow the service in the Hillsdale Cemetery, Middletown next to her son and sister.
Memorial contributions may be made in Patricia’s name to the Ronald McDonald House, 745 W. Governor Rd., Hershey, PA 17033 or to Veterans Healing Veterans, 220 12th St, Marina, CA 93933. Condolences may be sent online at Matinchek Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc, 260 E, Main St., Middletown, PA 17057
