Obituary for Robert Charles Green

It is with deep sadness that we share that Robert "Bob" Charles Green passed away unexpectedly on Monday, October 17, 2022. Bob held many roles in our family. He was Monica “Haley” Green and Jessica Green's Dad, Jayden Davidson-Green's Grandpa Bobo, Daniel Davidson's father-in-law, Patricia “Merirose” Kelsey’s childhood friend/past-husband, Joyce Reiner's partner, brother to Bill & Dan Green, and predeceased by sisters Peggy Aselton and Cathleen Gross, uncle and cousin to many in the extended Green and Haley families. We will miss him dearly.
Lover of all good food, drink, travel, art, poetry, and music, he was a true connoisseur. That is, when he wasn't (over) working for 48 years as a Senior Faculty of English, Humanities and Computer Science at Central Pennsylvania's Harrisburg Area Community College (HACC).
Born in Binghamton, New York on May 7, 1941, Bob’s family moved to Miami, Florida when he was 10 years old due to his father, Daniel Green’s, health issues. His mother, Margaret Haley Green, raised Bob and his four siblings while working nights as a supervisor of nurses.
Bob attended Miami Jackson High School, class of ’59. He then went to Catholic Seminaries in Baltimore, Maryland and Miami, Florida, before deciding the priesthood wasn’t for him. Embarking on a different path - that eventually lead to a lifetime of teaching and learning - he received his Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in English from Loyola University in Chicago, Illinois and his Doctorate in English Literature from the University of Rochester in New York State. Later in life, after teaching English for many years, he received his second Master’s degree in Computer Science from George Washington University in Washington, DC.
During much of his later teaching life, he traveled throughout the USA, Europe and other countries visiting many exhibits of art, architecture, and history. He would often bring back rich lessons to his humanities students and delighted in the idea that he got “paid to travel and go to museums.” Bob was very interested in genealogy which led him to do extensive research into the genealogy of his family history.
A simple Celebration of Life service will be held on Tuesday, Oct 25, 2022, at 11:00 AM at the Matinchek Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc. 260 E. Main St. Middletown, PA. There will be a visitation from 10:00 AM until the time of service. The service will be live streamed for those who can’t make it in person. Go to the Matinchek Funeral Home website and onto Bob’s page to watch. Hug your loved ones tighter today. Always tell the folks you love, how much you love them. Peace be with you.
