Robert G. Yocum, 89, of Elizabethtown entered into eternal rest on Monday, December 28, 2020 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on September 18, 1931 in Ringtown, PA and was the son of the late Clarence and Elsie (Zimmerman) Yocum.
Robert was a member of St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church and the Prince Edwin Spring Creek Masonic Lodge 486, both of Middletown. A veteran, Robert served in the Army during the Korean War. After the war, he spent over 30 years as a Federal employee, having progressed to the position of Chief of Air Maintenance and Modifications at New Cumberland Army Depot at the time of retirement. He then embarked on a second career, working for 10 years as a supervisor at R.E. Wright Associates.
He enjoyed woodworking and was a true master craftsman “who could fix anything.” He also enjoyed gardening and spending time with his family.
Robert graduated from the former Locust Twp. High School, Numidia, PA and played for the championship basketball, baseball and soccer teams.
In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his brother, Carl Yocum.
He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Janet (LeVan) Yocum; three children, Lisa (Yocum) Cutler and her husband Ken of Willow Street, PA, Craig L. Yocum and his wife Linda of Middletown, and Curt R. Yocum and his wife Nanci of Elizabethtown; three grandchildren, Katarina Yocum, Lauren Cutler and Daniel Cutler and his wife Brianna; and brother, John Yocum and his wife, Renee.
Due to the current Covid-19 restrictions, there will be a private service at the Matinchek Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., Middletown with the Rev. Dr. J. Richard Eckert officiating.
There will be a visitation on Saturday, January 2, 2021 from 10:00-11:00 AM at the Matinchek Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., 260 E. Main St. Middletown.
Inurnment will be in the St. Peters Memorial Gardens, Middletown.
The family has requested that memorial contributions in Robert’s name be made to the St. Peters Evangelical Lutheran Church 121 N. Spring St. Middletown, PA 17057 or to the Hospice of Central PA 1320 Linglestown Rd. Harrisburg PA 17110.
